The Kite: A Nostalgic Office Design by Shu-Hui Hsu

Winner of the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017

Inspired by childhood memories of playing in fields, Shu-Hui Hsu has designed an office space that evokes nostalgia and energy. The Kite, an award-winning design, is a testament to Hsu's innovative approach to architecture.

Shu-Hui Hsu's inspiration for The Kite came from his childhood memories of running barefoot in fields and flying kites. The factory, located in the center of a field, reminded Hsu of these carefree days. This nostalgia was the driving force behind the design, which aims to bring a touch of childhood joy to the office environment.

The unique properties of The Kite lie in its innovative use of space and light. The sun shines on the exterior of the building, reflecting on the water and swirling into the entrance. This creates a vibrant and energetic vibe, much like a sports car riding on the levels of the ceiling and parking on the floor as the runway of an aerodrome.

The Kite was realized using advanced architectural techniques. The design incorporates a three-dimensional bar, reminiscent of an aerodrome runway. This bar, like a sports car, rides in the levels of the ceiling and parks on the floor, bringing an element of energy and dynamism to the space.

The office space covers an area of 400 square meters. It was completed in June 2011 in Changhua County, Taiwan. Despite the challenges posed by the project, such as the need to balance nostalgia with a modern office environment, Hsu successfully created a space that is both functional and evocative.

The Kite is not just an office space; it is a testament to Shu-Hui Hsu's innovative approach to design. It showcases his ability to draw from personal experiences and translate them into a physical space. The design was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.

Shu-Hui Hsu's The Kite is a reminder of the power of design to evoke emotions and create unique experiences. It is a celebration of childhood memories, a tribute to the joy of play, and a testament to the transformative power of design.
